This problem (screen goes black and then white and shuts down the program) only happens in Photoshop CS4 under 32-bit which is what I use because of filters. This started happening this summer. It has nothing to do with file size or how long I have been on the computer. This time it happened with a tiny file. I updated all the nvidia drivers, windows vista and put on service pack 2. It doesn't happen often. Yesterday I worked for hours in Photoshop with a large file and no problem. It only happens in Photoshop.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. I have 12 gig or memory and a large power supply. Also, plenty of fans. I don't think it is an overheating problem. Am baffled. I've tried to google it and all the answers so far seem to be update drivers. This has happened with the last two sets of Nvidia drivers.

Ive had similar problems and It might be Photoshop not syncing with your GPU.
Test it in Photoshop: Edit / Preferences / Performance
Disable Open GL Drawing and then restart PS. If this works then start by enabling agin and playing with the settings. If the issue comes back then it could be your drivers for the GPU or an OpenGL setting in your display card.
