Action to combine 2 pictures on a PSD template

Hi,

there is something I need to do quite frequently and I'm getting borred of doing it, plus I have the feeling there is a better way of doing it.

I need to put two images (jpg's) onto a template. I've tried several things using actions with 2 images, but I can't manage it with 3 images.

Anyone has experience with these things ?

The end goal is to create a droplet, but giving me the right pointers on how to manage 3 images in an action should get me going.

So... you have a need to apply the same 3 images to a webtemplate inside Photoshop over and over? Maybe i'm misunderstanding your question but if not...

Well, I'd suspect it would be simple, atleast if it is a Photoshop action you are looking for.

Creating your action

  1. To fetch your "Action" palette press "Window" --> "Actions" or press Alt+F9. 
  2. In your "Actions" palette create a new action and press play - record the repeatable action one image after another. When your done, press stop and thats it. 
Aslong as you keep in mind that an action is only as smart as you make it. It's static and can't work on a dynamic level. Apart from that you can record anything from loading images from your image folder to positioning the images right on your template.
When recording an action remember that it records all your mouse commands including the ones in the navigational system :)

What I am looking to do is the following.

In Bridge, select the two images i want to put into the template PSD file, select the action (via the usual way) and have the action, open the template, put the two images in two specific layers (which have a mask).

After that I need to do some manual repositioning, but that is ok.

Hope this clarifies.

Well you just solved your own problem :) Sorta... I'll try to explain what I mean.

As far as my experiencne with Adobe Photoshop goes, ANY and EVERY mouseaction performed while recording is recorded. So lets say that you, hypothetically - have created a new action and pressed play...

Making your action

  1. With your action recording go to "Files" --> "Open" and open up your template. 
  2. Now open the bridge whatever way you prefer. Find your files (all of them) and open them to your Adobe Photoshop.
    Open them directly to your template canvas or open them individually first (this is up to you). 
  3. Once you have finished your routine, go to your actions palette and press stop. 
You should now be the happy owner of your very own action.
OBS! If you have problems getting action to work when opening through the bridge you can always use the old-fashion way and open them through "Files" --> "Open".

I used a PSD template in Lightroom to solve the issue. Much quicker.
