300 dpi jpg changes to 72 dpi when placed in quark

Problem. When I place a 300dpi jpg into my quark doc, it comes in at 72 dpi.
1. Original artwork created in rgb 300dpi image size 8x8 phs
2. save as jpg (still 300 jpg rgb)
3. open that file - change mode from rgb to cmyk and resave
The file image size dialog box tells me it is 300 dpi, cmyk and the image size is 8x8. That is correct.
4. Problem is when I place the file into Quark, it comes in at 72 dpi 33x33 in

I have followed these steps before and the file would come in okay at 300 dpi 8x8.
I do not remember changing any specs.
Why would it change from 300 to 72  when the original is okay?Start Free Trial
