You'll notice that the folder is a "favorites" folder, so the thumbnails are links to the actual picture. That means if the picture isn't where the link thinks it should be, it won't show.
Your only solutions to being able to see the thumbnails are either a) copy the originals to your hard drive, and link them to the "favorites" folder by removing the existing thumbnails and creating new ones or b) find the original disk -- and they'll only show up in the favorites folder so long as the disk is attached to the computer.
Think of the SD disk as a CD; if it's not in the drive, it isn't visible.
