Hi,
This because the web is a 1bit gif. (Index colour). These means it either has colour, or does not have colour. In photoshop the image has variants of colour and transparency. When it is renders for the web these are stripped.
If your image has curves, then this will display very jaggedy and pixelated becuase while in photoshop the edge was clean due to various tones of transparency to individual pixels. However, these have been stripped.
The solution is to either make your image with straight lines... no curves on the edges, or
Use a background the same colour as your web page background.

Are you saving the gif with matte set to white? you need to set it to none
