Alt + Move Photoshop equivalent in GIMP?

Hi Experts,

In Photoshop there is an option to move selection (move tool) leaving a copy in place instead of cutting it. All you have to do is press Alt when using this tool.

Is there an equal function in GIMP?

OK, try this, it works for me:

Make your selection. Then hold down Shift+Alt. Then click-and-drag your selection. The original will stay in place.

This is what I am doing:
1) Make a quick picture using the Pen tool (P).
2) Make a selection (R)
3) Click Move tool (M)
4) Click the selection
5) Press and hold Left Shift + Left Alt
6) Drag the selection

In my case it only moves the selection. Without copying the contents. :(

Try it without step 3. I just made my selection, didn't change tools, held down Shift+Alt then dragged the selection. Worth a try...

Yeah, I tried it your way. If you select the move tool, it behaves as you described. If you don't change to the move tool as I just described, it works perfectly.
