I think Aperture 2.0 is not a solution for the same reason. It now stores its photos in its own library.

Browse All TopicsI have a home network with a mixture of Windows Vista, Windows XP and the most recent addition an Apple MacBook Pro.
Before the Apple, sharing photos across the machines was easy. I use some file sync software to replicate photos across the machines. Then each PC user can download photos from a digital camera as they are taken, just onto their machine, then the sync software copies them around (similarly if we edit a photo, the edit gets replicated) meaning we all have the photos and we have multiple copies to avoid losing them.
On Vista I'm able to replicate to the Pictures folder and Windows Photo Gallery detects new photos or new folders in the Pictures folder - which makes it easy.
Having just bought the MacBook Pro I am struggling to do something similar. I can find a folder that iPhoto uses to put photos in, so I could replicate FROM there to the PCs. But if I put photos in that folder (like replicating TO the Mac) the iPhoto software doesn't detect it.
Is there a way to get iPhoto to watch and detect photos in a directory - or is there another Apple package I could use that would do this?

1. Sorry but iPhoto will NOT be a solution as it uses its own folder structure and MUST import photos. IT is possible to create an Automator script that monitors a folder and "imports" photos to iPhoto but edits will not get copied back as you would require. m/showthre ad.php?t=2 61630

2. You'll need a photo manager which does not move source photos .. you are looking for something like Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture .. both of which cost a few $$.
3. To Sync files between multiple PCs ... and the Mac .. you can use the same fileSync utility from Windows and store the Mac photos in the Public folder inside the User folder which is easily shared using System Preferences.
