Grayscale display

Hi,
  My objective is to get grayscale display in Windows XP/Vista and Linux. I have heard Mac has special feature to do this. But how do I get this in Windows/Linux.

-- Are there free softwares available for the same? I have heard on Linux, Beryl does this, but on a per window basis. I wish to achieve this globally.

-- As an alternative, can I get a grayscale/black and white color profile for my monitor somewhere?
