Fireworks does not accept my custom colors. How come?

I have Fireworks MX 2004.

I pick a color from their palette and decide to make it a little bit lighter. For some reason, it doesn't "accept" my color and changes it to something else that's close but not the actual one I picked.

I just picked gray (#CCCCC) to draw some lines. I decide to make it a little bit lighter. When I finally get the right color, it either changes it to white, or goes back to the same color I started with.

It doesn't accept the custom color I just picked.

Any help is appreciated.
