The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

New to Flash and AS3 and need help accessing components on my stage

Asked by dyarosh in ActionScript

I am new to Flash and need help figuring out how to access a component on my stage in AS3.  Here is the setup:

Scene 1
=======
Scene 1 has 7 frames.  Frame 1 basically has my startup actions.  Frame 2 displays a page which after the user clicks on the Accept Button, takes you to Frame 3 where a menu is displayed.  Frame 4 contains a contact us page, Frame 5 contains a FAQs page, Frame 6 contains a page with a list of titles.  Frame 7 contains the code and objects needed for displaying information when a title is selected in Frame 6.  So far everything is working great.

On Frame 7 I have a MovieClip (AbstractPlayer_mc).  The movieclip is made up of components that include a ScrollPane (aSP) and another MovieClip (player_mc).  Upon entering Frame 7, the information on the title is retrieved which includes a graphic, an mp3 file, and positions that map the audio to the graphic.

The graphic is loaded into the ScrollPane which has an instance name, aSP within the timeline of the AbstractPlayer_mc.  The audio is loaded within the timeline of the player_mc.  It is within the player_mc that I am tracking the audio and need to set the aSP.horizontalScrollPosition and aSP.verticalScrollPosition.  This is where my problem lies.  I can not figure out the correct syntax.  I keep getting an error.

I've tried:
root.aSp.horizontalScrollPosition = AAPglobal.PositionList[AAPglobal.posIndex].x;
parent.aSp.horizontalScrollPosition = AAPglobal.PositionList[AAPglobal.posIndex].x;
this.parent.aSp.horizontalScrollPosition = AAPglobal.PositionList[AAPglobal.posIndex].x;
this.parent.parent.aSp.horizontalScrollPosition = AAPglobal.PositionList[AAPglobal.posIndex].x;

All produce the following compile error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property aSp through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
