hey man... one thing you might need on the cd is a mac version of a flash player... I am in college right now and one morning had to do a presentation and my file wouldn't run because the flash player .exe was a PC player...

you need a Mac one...

I ended up having to play my movie over the net... give it a try and get back to me ASAP!!

goodluck

Derek again...

I am not trying to imply your stupid here... just trying to suggest all possible options here!

you have a flash 5 plug-in on your mac??

do you have flash5 for mac at all??

one of my thoughts is that you may have flash5 for PC but not MAC...

and as is the case for all progs you can't take a newer version file and play in an old version...

example... so your version 5 file may have problems running in a version 4 of the program.

try and find a version 5 plug-in or player if oyu haven't execised this option already

I will be around till 3 pm today... it's 11 am right now where I am... talk to you later

It seems that you might need two files on the cd, and exe and an hqx.  One is a windows projector, and one a Mac projector.  Also, make sure that the cd can be read on a mac  in the firstplace.  I'm not sure if they format cds or how they do it, but I know disks at least need to be formated properly to get both systems to be able to use them.  So, I don't think it is possible to have only one exe fil because the mac won't like it, and will want to sleep instead.  Try the hqx file along with the exe.

Goodluck!

also if you go to http://www.macromedia.com/flash/
and type in hqx in the search box and then choose
Macromedia - Flash Player: Distribution
It will cover four different ways to distribute your movie including on CD and give you the benefits and drawbacks of each method.  It also covers placing the movie online to let people on multiple platforms view it or download it.  Let me know if all this stuff helps.

Okay....I'll try and burble out what I know.

CD's written on a PC cannot be read by a MAC and vice-versa, unless it's a dual format CD.  (That might be wrong, but I've never been able to do it.)

Also, EXE files are windows executables and would therefore not run on a MAC.  (The OS is completely different in the way it executes files.)

The only way I can see of doing this is to have a version that you have made in flash on a PC, and the same but made on a MAC.  Put both of these onto a dual format CD and let the OS decide.

That could be complete rubbish, but that's the experience I've had.

Good luck,

John.

hey! guys...
We have worked on a pc with flash4 and when we published the files for windows projectr(exe) and for mac(hqx) ......now the problem stands as when we run the hqx on mac it asks for a translater and needs binhex or some converter.
The problem is we would like to make an autorun cd wth both os compatible.

HMMM,
I don't know why it isn't working since it is a mac projector.  Did you try it on more than one mac?  Also, if you can't get it to work, you could publish it as a quicktime movie if there is no interaction.  That should work.  Let me know what happens.

Netbug,

There is an issue with the Flash 5 mac hqx file.  I've run into the same issue.  The only thing I can tell is if you haven't used to much proprietary flash 5 script open your file in flash 4.0 and create the hqx from there.

That's what I had to do...

I'm glad you knew that Brent.  I was thinkin it should work, and didn't realize the Flash 5 problem.  Well netbug maybe you can get it to work now, by creating it in flash 4 like brent said.

GoodLuck!

netbug,

I discovered it because I had written a program called "Flashster" which is a realtime chat program using Flash 5.0 xmlsocket connection.  When I compiled it to an .hqx it wouldn't even run the first animation on the mac.  It just sat there.  Unfortunately I was using the xml socketconnection and that's not supported in Flash 4.0.  If you'd like to see "Flashster" you can visit http://63.68.138.34/flashster.html

Best of Luck to You,
Brent

Brent, that chat is great, is there a tutorial somewhere on the internet that would help me understand the processes involved in such a project.  I don't know xml.  Would it be a good thing to learn.

And by the way, netbug, you still havin' trouble?

Alan

by: bziemannPosted on 2000-10-11 at 09:16:25ID: 4678233

Alan,

No tutorial yet, I'm writing a Flash 5 class for ehandson.com so it will be there in a month or so.  Also you'll need to know a some type of server side scripting such as Java or Com Objects to make the flash work.

Brent.
