You need flash MX which can import MPEG. Flash 5 can not import MPEG you need to convert it into quicktime movie then you can import into flash 5.
Macromedia Flash Player 5 does not have the capacity to play digital video. This means that Flash Player 5 cannot play QuickTime, AVI or MPEG video inside a Web browser or in a Flash projector. Macromedia Flash 5 imported a QuickTime movie, added Flash animation and interaction using the techniques described in the Using Flash manual, then exported as a QuickTime movie containing an embedded Flash track.

yes that is correct about Flash 5 not being able to export a .mov to a .swf, so you have to do a little work to get the movie to look right on your page...
Also, the .mov will not have any sound, because Quicktime did not support it at the time...
My recommendation is to just use your existing mpg and embed that in your html page and use layers and such to mask what you don't like...
or just upgrade to Flash MX and you won't have as many problems... :)
