The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problems passing variable to movie clip on movie clip load

Asked by GroverDill in Macromedia Flash

I am making a script that loads a an indeterminate number of child movie clips and attempts to pass them variables (or, more accurately, the clips attempt to load variables based on the parent).

Here is the script that each child movie calls to load its variables from the parent:

// [Action in Frame 1]
Text = _parent.Text;
Font = _parent.TFont;
Text_color = new Color();
Text_color = _parent.TColor;
Bold = _parent.TB;
Italic = _parent.TI;
Underline = _parent.TU;
Size = _parent.TSize;

What is occurring now is that all of the child scripts containing the above code end up having the same value when instantiated even though I don't want them to, since I haven't been able to figure how to control when the above code is called (since it appears to be called as soon as the object is loaded)..

The problem is twofold: First, I don't have access to the source of the children, so I can't change the behavior of the above loading code. Second, I can't figure out how to selectively load the values I want into the correct variables in the parent and then ask the child movies to call the above loading code again. Any help in coding my parent script appropriately would be greatly appreciated.
