I need to change the color of a movie clip inside a button through Actionscript. However, I'm running into problems. It seems that I cannot target the movie clip inside the button with Actionscript. The button is nested inside a movie clips itself. Here is what I am doing:
Main MovieClipt: myMainClip
Button: myButton
MovieClip inside Button: myClip
Here is how the pieces are nested: myMainClip-->myButton-->my
From the root I am using this code in the load event for myMainClip:
onClipEvent(load) {
my_color = new Color(this.myButton.myClip
my_color.setRGB(0x993366);
}
This doesn't seem to work though.
Question: How can I target the movie clip inside the button?

Targets end when it is not a movieclip anymore. So with a Movieclip inside a button, your target stops at the button.
Do alle buttons hold the same movieclip? What would happen if you have this movieclip also "temporary" on your main and you change the colour of the movieclip. Do they all change inside the buttons? Probably not!
Would it be an idea the create a movieclip above the button inside myMainClip ? with "createEmptyMovieclip" and have a 50% transparant above the button and so colour it? (i know stupid idea)
What about changing the colour of the whole button-clip? Not an option?

Yeah otherwise start over but this time create all movieclips and buttons with actionscript from scratch. Maybe even by duplicating some of the existing movieclips (duplicateMovie).

May be you should consider making the button instance from a Movie Clip instance.
Movie Clip can be used as button as well with more functions available than the button instance itself.
