What are the dimensions of the video?
Can you use a preloader to keep the user amused while you "buffer" some of the video?
Also, video compression works by only saving the data that has actually changed from one frame to the next, so videos with not much movement will compress better than videos with lots of movement. Flat colours also tend to compress better than gradients.
Don't embed an alpha channel if can help it - this will also save a little bandwidth.
