Making a Flash Banner Clickable

Okay so I have a flash banner with some layers and want to make the entire thing clickable to go to a web page using _blank.

I've tried all sorts and currently have a layer (1st layer at bottom) with a rectangle converted to a button with some action script on the first frame but it doesnt work.

Can someone tell me what I should be doing?

Bring the rectangle button at the topmost layer.
Stretch the rectangle to cover the entire banner area. and also stretch it to cover the entire banner timeline.
Make it transparent by setting the alpha to 0.

and select the button on stage,
open actionscript panel, (press F9)
add following code in actionscript panel

on (press) {
      getURL("YOUR_URL_HERE","_blank");
}

Thanks for the comments.  Doesnt appear to work though.  I have done as stated but the compiler gives a warning of 1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program.

And the resulting swf export shows a mouse hand when hovering but no resulting click action.

Any ideas?

are you compiling it for AS2 or AS3?

and it would be helpful if you can upload sample FLA to get the accurate solution

in AS3, geturl is replaced with  navigateToURL()

replace the actionscript with the AS3 code below for the button.
