Then, if I save the file, the code doesn't work. The only place I can now save a .fla is on the desktop. For some reason, everything works if saved there. This just started on my work computer but when I got home to see what happens on my home computer, I'm getting this same problem. No idea what's going on. Anyone else have some insight?

I still don't know whas really happened. Can't save to the root or any hard drive, external drive or flash drive where before I didn't have this issue. I can save now and have the code be executed like normal only if the .fla is saved in a folder or sub-folder. But I was having this problem even if I opened a .fla that was already saved in a folder and code was executing.

Hi there
There is a issue where AS is omitted if the FLA is saved to a root directory like (C:/). I don't know if this applies to you but just to warn you.
Try save you project as AS2 to see if work.
