Using Illustrator 9 to create Acrobat PDF files

I am using Illustrator 9 and I would like to create PDF files of my fliers. With so many options for export, I am having trouble creating a correct file. Either the front and back of the flyer show up on one PDF page, or more commonly, the fonts print right, but look horribly pixilated on the screen, or the PDF can't be read by certain readers. What method should I use to create a widely distributable PDF file for screen viewing and basic printing that keeps the fonts looking normal on the screen. I can save as a PDF with options for version 4 or 5 with options for compression and embedding fonts. Or I can print to the Distiller or PDF writer, or I can create an EPS or PS file and open it outside of Illustrator in Distiller and save it. None of these options seem to give optimal settings. BTY I am using Formata for a font. Any assistance is apprecited
