Antialiased turned on is correct, however you need to make sure the edge pixels the antialiasing uses are the same color as the background of your web page.

In the Save for Web dialog box in Photoshop, with Transparency turned on (it's turned on by default), also turn on Matte color (to the right of the Transparency checkbox) and for that Matte color choose the same color as the background color of your web page. This is the fix to eliminate those ugly "halo" effects around antialiased graphics.

Then click OK and you'll get a dialog that prompts you for the filename of the .gif.

try out using photoshop5.5 and go for 'save for web'option in the file menu and see the preview and choose the right option for you.
But before doing that be sure your image doesn't have feathered edges....coz' it will create white dots.
Good Luck!

Please convert your answer to a Comment, netbug.

By Answering this question you have locked it out of the Open Question queue.  Besides which, it's not the definitive answer, and you're repeating a previous comment.

Per EE:
"Answers: An answer is a specific solution to a question and should be submitted if it will solve the questioner's problem and doesn't duplicate a previous comment. "

chwankok, if netbug doesn't change his "Answer" to a Comment, you can  Reject it. That will "unlock" this question so more experts can respond.

To split points between two or more experts, post a request (including how you want them split) to Community Support:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Customer_Service/Experts_Exchange/

And include a link back to this thread in your message:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/jsp/qShow.jsp?ta=graphicsgen&qid=11617038

The EE staff will do the splitting for you.

Or, to simply award points to a different expert, on top of the ones you awarded here; post a fake 'question' either in this topic area or in Community Support, with a message title/subject something like "Points for [expert name]". To this 'question,' assign the number of points you want to award to the new expert. Again, include a link back to this original thread in the message.

To be sure the Expert sees it, add a message here stating that you've posted a "points for" message.

The Expert will Answer the fake question with a thank-you, and when you Accept the answer, the new expert gets the points.
