Grab mpg or avi from DVD

Is there an application I can use to put a DVD containing several video clips in my dvd player on my computer and convert the clips to either mpg or avi format as files in my computer?

Plenty of shareware apps out there, just do a google search for " shareware DVD ripper " (without the quotes)
