Shrink mpeg

Hi all.

I have capured my wedding film from my video onto my computer in mpeg format. I have used a number of editing software to edit (add music ect) and delete unwanted scenes.

Now its finished and the quality is great and its ready to be burned onto dvd.

Now the problem is that its 7GB in size, and any program that I try to use complains about too big and can not be burnt onto dvd. I have used nero, pinnacle and others.

Now is there a way to shink the size of my mpeg to fit onto a dvd.

I have tried a number of things but instead of me listing them I would like your suggestions and take it from there because maybe I was using the right software but not in the right way.

Thanks for your help.
