From what I can find, it looks like it is possible but only to a certain extent. You can draw a gradient in Word:

Once you have the gradient, you need to turn it into a jpg or gif to use on a website like this:

The issue becomes how to get it into the proper format. It's possible to copy and past the image from Word into another program. Do you have anything that will save as a gif or jpg?
If so, from Word:
On the View toolbar, click Select
Select the picture or artwork by dragging the mouse.
On the Edit menu, click Copy Image.
Switch to the program into which you want to paste the picture or artwork, and then use that program's paste command.
Best,
