How to overlap a video over an existing video and make it sync ( more or less like morphing)
Hi ,
I am noob to graphics and video editing. So please bear with my silly question or if it does not make sense. Here is what I want:
I have a video file with a bunch of my friends (like 4 people) dancing in it. I am planning to shoot another video that has four of different guys imitating the other four people in the earlier video. Now, I want to "overlap" the old video with the new video file with more or less perfection. Can I do that? What software do I need. All I have is a camcorder. Is it legal??

I have gotten the Sony Vegas 8 (the latest ver) in fact from the store and I dont know where to find a way to cut an image (selected image) like face/complete body of a person from the video frame. I have looked under compositing and all it says is about how to "MIX" two seperate videos. But my requirement is to cut some part of an existing video and then paste the new version of it. For example, let's say there is a video, video1 about 2 mins long. I imported that video into the vegas editor and in the time line I expanded that 2 minute video in to a single frame/sec (so that became like a 120 frame video). Next I have another video, video2 similar to video 1 but different cast. Now I want to cut a cast from video1 and have his image replaced with another guy from video2.
This is my requirement. How would I do that?

Thanks for your reply. I now know from your comments how to use the anchor creation tool and I followed your steps until step 5. But your last step is confusing. Here is what I did,
1. In my 2 min video, I dropped the source video in the timeline and expanded it so that I could see one frame per second
2. I select one frame (frame 00:00:00;01) and then R.Click and select "Video Event Pan/Crop" option, and in the window that followed, I selected the nib tool (the pen tip kinda tool) and made a boundary of dots around the area that I wanted to replace
3. I also made sure, the mode under path is set to "Positive"
Now, after this I dont understand what to do. I still do not understand your step 6 although I read it several times wondering if it makes any sense. Any thoughts?

I think we were solving this problem:

aren't we?
Place the new video in the upper event. Place the old video in the bottom event.
Make masks from the new video and position them upon old video.
You can try first with a simple photo: cut, for example, the face and ajust its position above underlying video frames.

Are you talking about the placing the videos in the timeline ( I am able to put them one above another in the timeline). I have attached a snapshot of my screen for understanding. I have uploaded into EE at this location

Yes, I mean the event in the uppper track.
Just outline the image which you want to put over the old one. In "Positive" mode all other content of the frame in upper event will be removed.

Sorry for the delayed acceptance of your suggestion. I am currently working on Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and am yet to explore ways to achieve this on this new tool. Thanks for the input though
Be aware that it is rather complex work: cutting complicated figures from every frame.
