The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

I would suggest creating a container swf that will load the swishmax made movie externally. The idea here is that the container swf would use the MovieClipLoader class to load the movie externally and keep track of the progress while at it. The progress data will then be used to manage the loading bar's animation.

http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/moviecliploader.htm

This is really the only way to do it since swishmax does not support custom scipting on its own.

        }
       if (myVar >= 100) {
          nextSceneAndPlay();
      }
}

onFrame (1) {
    prevFrameAndPlay();
}

A lot must've changed since the last time i tried swish products.. Anyway I found the tutorial that you were following and at least I managed to get the idea of what method you're trying to do. Some question to help find out what's wrong:

1.) Did you create the bar properly? As in did you do stretch the bar all the way to the maximum at the 100th frame? This is important since the bar's length will rely on this.
2.) Did you give a proper instance name for the loading bar? This is often times forgotten and a cause of scripting issues.
3.) Did you try loading the movie from the internet and not from the local hard disk? Loading from the hard disk is extremely fast so there's almost no time for the loading screen to show at all. Try putting it up some place like geocities and try downloading the flash page to see what's wrong.

Forgive me for asking such very simple and no-brainer questions but most of the scripting problems that people (including me) encounter involve something so simple that we'd feel very stupid after figuring it all out.

1. Yes, I did stretch the bar to frame 100. When I drag the playline back and forth over the frames within the "bar" movie, the bar grows and decreases accordingly.

2. Yes, I am pretty sure I got the loading bar instance right in both, as you can see in the screen shots and code, its simply named "bar".

3.Yes, I am testing the movie online, not on a hard disk.

Thank you for your help so far! I really need to figure this out...

Can you indicate exactly what's wrong? Is the preloader bar not moving? Is the percent text changing?

the bar doesn't move and then it suddenly moves onto the next seane... I think that it may just be because I have such fast internet access... I will be testing it soon on a slower connection.

Thank you.

It's best to test it on the slower connection because from what i can see, the tutorial is complete and should work when done correctly.
