Well first of all I had to watch the video to the point of the live soccer game to realize that you weren't talking about american football. I backed it up to the beginning, and sure enough, there was an animated "football" in there.
Easy to use and 3D don't really go hand in hand. Pretty much all 3D softwares have a steep learning curve. Fortunately the animation that you desire is a pretty simple one to make. If you don't want to drop a ton of money into 3D software, you might want to play with some of the free ones.
A good choice might be Blender. Otherwise you could try using Wings3D for modelling, and then POV-Ray or Yafray for rendering the sequence.
Blender would probably be easier though as the modeller, animation, and rendering engines are all contained within the same software. Blender also has a larger support community that would be helpful as you learn.

For animating in 3d I would check out Swift 3D: http://www.erain.com/Produ cts/Swift3 D/
I believe you can export the results as an animated gif. You can do some really cool stuff with Swift and there is a demo I believe.
hope this helps! :)
