Desktop harddrive must be erased clean before junked.

Hi,
Is there efficient software that will ensure my harddrive is professionally clean before I toss my desktop out?  I must have accuracy because of old online purchases, banking, etc that may compromise my security.  It's really old, 13 yrs.; Gateway Windows 95, 1GB.  I would like to have a one-shot deal solution if possible.  If you have more questions, please ask.
