Web pages delays when accessed over proxy server (Apache, Tomcat)

We have CentOS 5 server with standard Apache HTTP server and Tomcat 5 (mod_jk) on which our JAVA application is rolling.

Some of the customers claim that when they access our production server over their company's proxy server, they experience some delays - compared when they access the server from their home. Do you maybe have some idea how and why is this happening? Is there some limitations, security checks or so on the server when accessed over the same IP (IP of the proxy server) we should take care of?

We did a short test with our internet provider's proxy server and could not detect any delays comparing when the server is accessed directly.
