Web server plugin for different Weblogic version

Asked by yongsing in BEA WebLogic Application Server

Our client has a application running on a Solaris 8 server with WebLogic 6.1. We are now developing a new application to be deployed on the same server. However, we are suggesting that they use WebLogic 9.2 or 10.0. I have checked, and found that installing WebLogic 9.2 or 10.0 on Solaris 8 is not a problem:

http://e-docs.bea.com/platform/suppconfigs/configs/solaris/index.html

There is, however, a concern on the WebLogic web server plugin to be used on their iPlanet (Sun One) server. They are using iPlanet as their web server, which will forward requests to the existing application running on WebLogic 6.1 on the Solaris 8 server. I presume that the web server plugin on their iPlanet server is from WebLogic 6.1.

If they install WebLogic 9.2 or 10.0 on the Solaris 8 server, can the same web server plugin forward requests to the application running on the WebLogic 9.2/10.0? According to the below web site:

http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/plugins/overview.html#1033185

It says that

"As of WebLogic Server 6.1 SP6, 7.0 SP5, and 8.1 SP2, the WebLogic Server plug-ins are now certified to proxy to any version of WebLogic Server, including 5.1"

Does the above statement means that a WebLogic 6.1 plugin can now forward to WebLogic 9.2/10.0?Start Free Trial
