Let me start giving you the URL for the document repository for portal, it may be of great or no use to you but here it is : http://download.oracle.com
1) I always ask the following question, which JSR covers Portal? If they spit out JSR-168, then I know they are likely to be familar with it, if they don't know then I know they are not likely to have an indepth knowledge even if they have worked with it.
2) Start Simple : How do you create a portal application: Anwser here: http://download.oracle.com
3) how do you do Interportlet Communication? Anwser here: http://download.oracle.com
Local - http://download.oracle.com
4) Is this solution meet the standards of defined in the JSR 168 for how Inter portlet communication should be handled? Anwser this is a trick question, JSR 168 doesn't cover this. Which is why each vendor uses this as a way to tie customers to their server.
5) Question about Web Services, What is a WSDL (pronounced wiz-del)?
Anwser is here : http://edocs.beasys.com/wo
How can I create one in WebLogic workshop? Anwser is here http://edocs.beasys.com/wo
(NOTE: I could not find the similar documentation, the first question is relevent and that link is generic to the version of WebLogic)
6) I use this question get an understanding of their knowledge and experience around WebServices and their construction and use in Portal. ( I replaced the question here as well)
Question : Tell me a little about the functions available in the WLS (WebLogic Server) REST API. Anwser is here: http://download.oracle.com
This is everything that can be done to modify your Portal from an API standpoint.
7) I ask questions around portal best practices. Here is a page that does a good job at listing them out: Portal References - http://download.oracle.com
Portal Development - http://download.oracle.com
Skins - http://download.oracle.com
Forked Portlets - http://download.oracle.com
I realize that these questions / Anwser pairs rely on you to do a little review of the links provided, but most questions don't have one exact anwser or contain a lot of information. This is how I like to interview. I leave it open to the person on the other side fo the table to got into detail. This is the sign of someone who has used the technology and understands its.
I have a cheat sheet I use when doing tech interviews. PArt of it covers webLogic Portal. This just keeps me on track and gives me plenty of questions on various subject matter which I need to cover in the interview. I always have links to pages where I can find the anwser. If I'm working with the technology I remember it well, but I have used the cheat sheets for like 10 years. I update them as needed. Thansk to you I have now updated my WL Portal section : - ).
I don;t get too deep into the inards of Technologies becuase even I need to refer to manuals when faced with those problems. What I do expect is a general knownledge of the subject and the ability to easily anwser the questions I do ask. This insure that they knw the subject matter. Anyone who thinks these questions are deep into the inards is not a canidate.
