The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

JBoss A.S. v.4.0.5-GA, multiple instances: "Port busy 8009 java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind"
Tags: JBoss, JBoss Application Server, 4.0.5-GA, multiple instances, running with jdk from Sun (jdk v. 1.5.09), Port busy 8009 java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
Hi all,
I configured JBoss with 5 (five) instances on the same machine.. but it seems that I'm having some troubles..

I'm getting this error:
[...]
2008-04-10 19:09:48,719 INFO  [org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket] Port busy 8009 java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
[...]

All these instances are of type "all".
I started them sequentially and all went ok for the first 4 instances.. not for the 5th one.
I can't understand why it throws that message..  I can't find the mistake/error..

(In the past I installed another Jboss on another machine and it had 4 instances.. an all went ok.)

Have you got any ideas (what to check and so on..)? Help would be greatly appreciated (I need to have all of them running and working in a correct way...and it's quite urgent..).. thanks a lot!

Thanks,
Anna

I'm enclosing this file.. "port-bindings.xml" (I added the extension txt only in order to submit this file).
I changed that file and also the following too:

- conf/jboss-service.xml
- conf/jboss-minimal.xml
- conf/ jacorb.properties

- deploy-hasingleton/jms/uil2-service.xml

- deploy/httpha-invoker.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml
- deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/server.xml
- deploy/jmx-console.war/cluster/clusterView.jsp
- deploy/jmx-console.war/cluster/bootstrap.html
- deploy/juddi-service.sar/juddis.war/WEB-INF/juddi.properties
- deploy/management/console-mgr.sar/web-console.war/WEB-INF/classes/ClassLoaders.bsh
- deploy/snmp-adaptor.sar/attributes.mib
- deploy/snmp-adaptor.sar/attributes.xml
- deploy/snmp-adaptor.sar/managers.xml
- deploy/snmp-adaptor.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml
- deploy/cache-invalidation-service.xml
- deploy/cluster-service.xml
- deploy/jms/hajndi-jms-ds.xml

Anna

It's "equivalent" to "sample-bindings.xml" under %JBOSS_HOME%\docs\examples\binding-manager\

port 8009 is configured in deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/server.xml so i suggest you recheck that...

we tend to put 1 on the front of port numbers when we have multiple instances, ie 8009 becomes 18009

mhhh... I have a doubt: in that file (and for all 5 instances) I have 8009 port. And in port-bindings.xml I have not modified that value (for any/no one of them). So I have to change it... Have I .. to change also 8443 into 18443 (both in port-bindings.xml and the other files) and that 8080 into 8030 and so on? I can change all the ports accordingly to port-bindings.xml.. Is it correct? :-)

(Please, can you point me to an updated link/guide in order to have multi-instances of Jboss configured and running ok? better if for Jboss. A.S. 4.0.X+...?) I followed an old old old page on jboss wiki.. but I'm always worried because I don't know if what I'm doing is correct or not... I'm a newbie/novice/new to these topics).

Thanks a lot for your help and time!
Anna

Good news: I checked for ports... and for the 5th instance I discovered that I declared ca_all instead ca_test (in conf/jboss-service.xml there was ca_test). Changing that name in port-bindings.xml seems that solved the problem.

But now... I'm curious.. what's the right way to configure JBoss in a correct way? Best practices?

Thanks a lot,
Anna  :-)
