Browse All Topicshi guys,
I am trying to set up a 9I AS for testing and i am new to this. The release version is 1.0.2.2.2a for windows nt. The following are my queries. I am doing a enterprise edition installtion except oms.
1) Is it possible at all to set up 9i AS on the same machine which has the origin database and also the it is the domain controller ( this is exactly what i am doing and i have been facing the problem ). the oracle documentation says that all oracle services should be stopped before starting the installation does this include origin database if so at what point should i start the origin database.(file:///F:/doc/i
i have taken care of port conflicts by assigning different ports for the origin database just in case the 9i AS reuires to accesss these ports
2) Is it necassary that the installation be done by the domain administrator (or can it be done by the local administrator) (anyways i am doing it as domain admins)
3)Can i have the origin database in another windows domain and have the 9i AS install on another domain
4) Sometimes i receive an error durring creating and configuring the cache saying that control file is missing when i goto the folder i see that the control files are missing for the database.(although this doesnot happen al the time it has happened at least 3 times...i have tried installation over 7 time with no success)
5) My Origin database is 9.0.1 does this have anything to do with failure.
6) Durring configuration of the cache it seems to be using the user CTXSYS on the origin database . this account is expired in my origin database what password must be set durring installtion
thanks for your time
If it is possible can some one give me a step by step procedure of installing 9i AS on the same machine as the origin database.

Hi Rateesh,
Find the answers for your questions
1. Yes, it is possible to setup 9iAS on the same machine as origin database.
Installation process will prompt you to start the origin database when required. During 9iAS insta
llation, usually you do not need to access origin database until unless you intend to use origin database
for some configurations.
This once again depends on what components of 9iAS are you trying to install.
2. All the oracle products should be installed by Oracle group owner. You create user group and assign
them domain administrator privilege.
3. Yes, we can have origin database and 9iAS on different domains, but both should be accessible if you w
ant to use origin database for some 9iAS component configurations.
4. If the database installation is successfull, you will not receive this error. Make sure Oracle group
will have write permissions to the folders/drives where you are creating Oracle files.
5. No, even with 9.0.1., you should be able to install successfully. I recommend you to use database 9i
release 2. As 9.0.1 is full of bugs.
6. You can set the password for CTXSYS whatever you want. If it is required, Installation process will p
rompt you to enter the password. To be on safer side, set it as same as username i.e. CTXSYS.
Note: 9iAS and origin database should be installed on different oracle homes.
9iAS is available to install on Servers only, i.e. windows NT/2000, Unix, Linux
Main things to be considered before installing 9iAS
1. Server should have static IP address
2. Ensure that the OS patches are upto date.
3. Each instance of 9iAS should be installed on separate homes.
4. You should have atleast 1GB RAM on your machine, if not atleast 512 (it will be slow).
Shutdown all the oracle products on server, where you want to install 9iAS.
Make sure that you remember all the username, passwords and other information you submit during the insta
llation and configuration process .
Installation CD will have document of step by step installation procedure. Just follow that eveything wi
ll be alright, if you set up or satisfy 4 points mentioned above.
Regards,
Raj
