We have a requirement to decomission a file server and migrate all of the share onto our Net app filer.
Some of the share are a problem as we have some applications hard coded to use those shares. We need to move the shares but keep the same Server name. I understand you can do something with the LM and hosts file. Is this right or is there another way of doing it?
If you have no requirement to use the same name anywhere else, you could just ammend your dns server's dns entry for your file server to point at the net app filer.
The above will be so that anyone else that has drive mapping etc can still access the correct server.
But if you just want your applications to use the alias and the software resides on one or two servers changing the host files on the relevant servers is also a viable solution.
