I currently have one office running one Windows 2003 Small Business Server. The server hosts Exchange, is a Domain Controller, and File Server. It also functions as a VPN Server and listens for client requests.
The client is considering setting up a satellite office. What is the best solution for this type of set up?, and how do I set it up? am new to site to site vpns so the more information the better.
you could continue to use the server to do this - or you could offload it onto a router / firewall. There are pro's and con's to both. how many users are involved?
I'd run with CISCO 877's at each, with a site to site vpn established. i'd put in a small server @ the remote site as a secondary domain controller with dns / dhcp /file / print services
very nice piece of equipment. Infact I'm about to setup a similar VPN and am now thinking of using this. Like how much is it going for? and I hope ther's no hidden cost or anything for keys or licenses? Also do u know the max no of connections it can support?
i think networkdoc will also be interested in knowing if he should disable his current RRAS Windows VPN if the cisco 877 is put in the network.
Off the record; If one puts a 870 at the branch office, is there someting higher up that can be put at the head office where the domain server and aopplication server are? Higher up than the 877 but not as expensive as the usual Cisco routers? I'm just scared that if u put an 870 at the main office that will host a whole bunch of stuff it won't be able to cope. there are like 30 users on lan at the main office and an accounts application as well as AD server. I'll have a secondary domain server at the branch site though but replication would also be done over the VPN, right?
I'm guessing answers to all these questions would help networkdoc as well.
