Hosts often set up a monitoring service for their dedicated server customers, which will send an alert in case the server that's monitored is down. It could be that the monitoring service is misconfigured. Maybe an incorrect IP address was entered. It happened to me where I was receiving alerts for a server I didn't own - the wrong e-mail address was entered when the monitoring service was configured. Or sometimes servers are leased to a customer, and when that customer decides to cancel, the server is put on special offer, and when the next customer rents the server, the DC staff might forget to update the service.
Can you tell through the e-mail headers exactly where the mail came from?

Have you contacted MediaTemple? Is it possible that this is a service that they are providing, and isn't something configured through plesk?
