Thinking of installing GFI mail archvier for exchange into a network with three Windows 2003 Server. 1 - File / application server 2 - Exchange server (c: drive under 1GB free space / d Drive about 40GB free space) 3 - newer blackberry server
Some users state the Outlook can be a bit sluggsh some days and we already had an occasion where we run out of space on exchange (increased limit from 18GB to 40GB).
Questions 1) If I enable Journaling, am I going to see a big hit on performance. I have read a 35% reduction which seems terrible? 2) If I do enable it, will then disabling if users complain have any permanent negative impact. e.g. if I crate a jounral account, leave it on and hen half way through the day everyone complains, will simply turning it off and then deleting the account be fine? 3) With no space on the C drive I would have to install GFI on the D. Even then we are tight? So I'm thinking I will instead install it on the blackberry server. Looking for opinions if this will have a big impact on network traffic and whether this would interfere with blackberry performance.
I guess I need a bit of reassurance really. I'm always scarred changing things on the server I only partically understand due to limited time in learning. So any input is welcome.
What i would do is not enable journaling until you make more space as journaling accounts can grow very quick and yes yo uwill see a performance hit. Now what I would do is image your server to a bigger hard drive this will make an exact copy of your drive but your c drive will grow in free space along with your d drive (depending on how big of a hard drive you purchase) Also you have all your exchange logs and dbases on the d drive right? You can move a lot of stuff off of the c drive to make space. When your OS partition is this low on space your will also start to see performance problems.
