Attribute component customization

Hi All,
I have to customize an attribute component, such that when a user clicks the 'next' button on the attribute component properties page, the cursor gets positioned to the first empty mandatory attribute present on the page. How should i start this customazation.

This customization is required so that user does not have to scroll the page looking for mandatory attribute that has not been filled, but is directly taken to that attribute with curson blinking on the text box.

Please help
