Drupal - checkbox on form

I have a form for users to complete on my site. One field is a checkbox that they can tick if the want to receive emails.  How do I make the checkbox ticked as the default?

See form http://www.samplepage.ca/CSCA/CSCA/user/register email update near the bottom.
