Have you set the page input format as full html?

by: ConcentusPosted on 2009-07-23 at 19:01:10ID: 24931846

nanharbison,
Thank you for your reply.
I went to Site configuration->Input formats and selected Full HTML. Is that what you mean? When I select Create new account on the main page, I'm still not seeing the fields. Shouldn't I be seeing the cck node fields?

by: nanharbisonPosted on 2009-07-24 at 03:38:15ID: 24933573

When you are on this page, since you have already created the page, you click on "Edit" and you see:
Title
Menu Setting
Body
and right below the big box where you enter content is a link "Input Format"
click on that and choose "Full HTML"

nanharbison,

I'm not sure which page you're referring to. Although it seems like I've seen that layout, I can't find it. I'm not seeing it under Site configuration->Input format or on the Create new account page. I don't see it under Administer->Content types either. Somehow, I'm missing it.
I'm wondering, though, could it have something to do with Permissions? I don't actually want anonymous users storing information, so I don't have any permissions granted to anonymous users.

by: nanharbisonPosted on 2009-07-24 at 05:10:02ID: 24934034

I mean you should be on the actual page where the form fields are not showing up, and you should click on the edit tab.

by: ConcentusPosted on 2009-07-24 at 05:23:35ID: 24934122

On the Create new account page, I only have the tabs: Create new account, Log in, Request new password. No edit tab.

Concentus,

It looks like it might be a permission issue. You said that you have no permission granted for anonymous user. If you go in the Permissions page, you should see down the list, in the content section, your new CCK field with different action (view xxx field, edit xxx field, delete xxx field). Try to check the "view ..." for your new content type for Anonymous user and see if it solves your issue.

let me know if it does not.

DJ,

Thanks for your reply. That helped. I finally narrowed it down to where I had to give anonymous users Permissions to
1. Edit the field
2. Edit the content type (node)

I'm wondering, do you think there is any compromise in security by doing this? If my users provide information that they want to be kept private, I want to make sure they are protected.

I appreciate your help!

by: ConcentusPosted on 2009-07-24 at 08:42:41ID: 31607191

DJ,
Thanks for your help. I set the permissions for anonymous users to edit the field and the content type and it worked.

by: DJmusicPosted on 2009-07-24 at 09:21:40ID: 24936487

Concentus,

I don't think that you will have a problem with security. As far as you only gave permissions to only view and edit the CCK field that you created. Now if the information should be provided but not seen, you can look in your user profile (or create a mock user, or use the Masquerade module to act as any of your user) and see if the CCK field appears there. If it does but should not, you can either deactivate (in Permissions) that your "authorized users" see others' contact information or uncheck the view your CCK field for "authorized users."
Then if the information is really sensitive (credit card, SSN, etc), Drupal is as secure as your server and the underlying database management system. Nothing is foolproof and Drupal is no exception! :)
