Question

Editing of Joomla's "JA_Purity" builtin template

Asked by: stako_ex

Hello,

I want to make the JA_Purity template to show all articles in the homepage in full width. The default is that the first article appears in full width and then the rest of the articles are divided at the left and right of the page. I'd like these to appear also like the first article.

Is there a way to do that?

Thanks

Let me add a picture so that it is more clear.

Yeah, there is. You should download Firebug to your Firefox browser. Active inspect mode and hold mouse over the element you want to change. Then you can try to edit the width. When you find the best looking solution just edit the css file and upload it to the server. You will see the filename and the path to the file in firebug!

Hope this helps!

That's a very useful tool but it is not as simple as finding the width and changing it. I did find the width but this applies only to the width of the cells. The second and third article are inside a separate table, the goal would be to separate them outside of this table but I do not think this is so simple. It's certainly something that I cannot do with firebug and my limited knowledge of CSS etc...

Oh ok. I think Joomla is echo'ing the HTML tables from a function. That makes it a little harder to find. I will try to see what I can find...

Hi again!

If you look in the this file: templates\beez\html\com_content\category\blog.php

At line 44 you have this line:

$colcount = $this->params->def('num_columns', 2);

change it to:

$colcount = $this->params->def('num_columns', 1);

I think that will do the job!

by: GodDoesntExistPosted on 2009-04-30 at 03:34:59ID: 24268434

If that doesnt work you could change this at line 33:

from:

$rowcount = $this->params->def('num_leading_articles', 1);

to:

$rowcount = $this->params->def('num_leading_articles', 1000);

Then your 1000 first articles will be leading articles. In other words they will have the same style element as your first article has now. If that works and you will have a lot of posts you can simply change that number to 9999999 :)

There might be a couple more ways to do this, my ways might not be the best but if they work, they work :)

Be careful and remember what you change so that you can change it back if it mess something up!

Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks, but please note that we are talking about the JA_Purity template, not Beez.

Tha path for that is /templates/ja_purity/

Okay, I see! I'm looking for a solution right now.

Remember that the most web browsers are saving web site cache. It means that sometimes HTML/CSS changes wont be visible right away.

I recommend to manually clear the web site cache in Firefox each time you make a change or disable Firefox from saving cache permanently (good when developing web sites).

by: stako_exPosted on 2009-04-30 at 04:28:00ID: 24268720

Thanks for trying :)

I shift+reload so cache is not an issue...;)

Well, it seems that there is an option in the Joomla control panel that controls how many columns appear in the frontpage and how many articles are "main" articles:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=337&t=132668

Tried it and works perfectly!

I guess I missed that on my first Google searches, just found it in my last search...:)

Not exactly the right solution but you've been very helpful so thanks. :)

by: GodDoesntExistPosted on 2009-04-30 at 05:22:06ID: 24269091

Ah! I just found that out too =D

A little dumb by me starting to digg in the code before check the admin interface :D

I always do such things :)

I'm glad you found the right solution!
