Question

How do I add menu class suffix to module in joomla ?

Asked by: Steel_Goddess

On my website, http://www.lsanashville.com/metalzone/index.php, I am using Yoo Themes flux template.  I have modules that are imported menus from my commerce program.  The Store Menu on the page is the example.  I want to get rid of the bullets for one, and hopefully be able to also use the menu stylings from the template as well.  I have added a module class suffix to the module to allow for the template stylings.  I am getting nowhere, on combining the module and menu styles. They cancel each other out.   If I can't have full combination, I would like at least to get rid of the bullets and have it look nice...

we need access to css files to check the issue

by: Steel_GoddessPosted on 2009-09-28 at 07:29:48ID: 25439629

I have attached the css files in zip file.  I had to put them in pdf format, to keep their formatting, and for the uploader to accept them. They could also be accessed through mozilla web developer tools, which may actually be easier.  There are several files, I am not sure which one you needed....as I am not sure which one will help accomplish what I need to do...

Thanks,
Alicia

i checked it is not the problem of css, iyou can change it through php files as your menus has multiple classes atteched , you need to change all the classes in order to work, now if you do that you will mess up the whole structure,

the best way is to edit the php file of that module.

if you want to go that way i can help you, and i do not suggest to change the css.

it will not guarantee that you will get the same result but if you change the php i am sure you can achieve the same menus

If I can just get to where I can style it more like the menus... when I use _menu, it gets rid of the bullets, but due to a shortcoming in the template structure I can't use the other styles.  I just want some type of harmony.  I had added the module class suffix code to this module and the others like it.  So as noted before I can style like the template, or i can remove the bullets..but I can't do both :-(
I will have to attach as pdfs again it looks like.  I will attach both the xml and the php.

If I can get one to do it..then hopefully I can just use the same coding to get the others.

Thanks,
Alicia

Hi - I can't see the bullets is this sorted?

by: Steel_GoddessPosted on 2009-10-04 at 17:24:13ID: 25491649

If you look now, you will see them...  in all menus position left...
I was playing around with the template and had moved them...

I can rid them with _menu, however the spacing will some how have to be adjusted, and it still will not let me pick up the module styles of that position..

thanks,
alicia

Yes... it is those....  I need them gone....

and ideally either:
be able to pick up the module style for the position... or the menu style of the template..

but yes, those are the pesky bullets...

Thanks.

ok go to yoru template.css file and add this:

ul.menu{ list-style-type: none; }

you may actually prefer this:
ul.menu{ list-style-type: none; margin-left:-15px;}
to move things left

You will need to check this works across browsers and may need to do things speicfiically in your IE stylesheets

I think this will do it - this removes bullets from menu lists - however, beware you may be using thsi styling somewhere elses and need it - just do a quick check - we can probably further specifiy it if need be.

Thank you, I think that has the potential to work..I will run it further through tomorrow and see what I wind up with throughout the page...  Is there a way to make the lines have less space between them...
It looks odd to my eye having so much space between..

Thanks again, and hopefully tomorrow will bring a woo hoo...

by: j-b-tPosted on 2009-10-04 at 20:49:38ID: 25492364

Sure, add in there - adjust to suit:

ul.menu li{padding-bottom:0;}

[or you can play with line - ht :

line-height:90%;

]  but check in all browsers......!

I had a few moments so I have begun testing..
In Mozilla, the whole menu gets pushed down.... I have 3.014
In IE 6, its ok...
IE7 will have to wait until I return home....
It does take the position styling so that is a very good thing....

These are my only lists in this template, so anything done should only affect these modules...
Is there any possibility in the css to make these lists  behave like the Test Store Menu.. Its the last menu in position left...

And now that the bullets are gone, if I decide to put something else in there, ex. an arrow-- down the road, how do I do that...

Sorry for so many questions...but you've been the only good help...

Looks perfect to me in latest FF, IE 7 & 8

see older FF here:
http://browsershots.org/screenshots/b51a7f03259d65a0f1d14f4a44c7dc74/

Is there any possibility in the css to make these lists  behave like the Test Store Menu.. Its the last menu in position left...  Sure - it would be a task to do from scratch - but can you just use the same moduel type and params as you've used in the lower module?

And now that the bullets are gone, if I decide to put something else in there, ex. an arrow-- down the road, how do I do that... - you'll need to create a background image for the bullets  - the li tag to do this - you'll have to read up a bit on html etc - and be sure to check across browsers

Sorry for so many questions...but you've been the only good help...

Thanks!

Great, I can investigate those in incarnation 2 :-).. To me its a bit trickier, because the lists are not coming from within the template structure, they are being imported from the ecommerce side...

I did update to the latest FF-- and it looks like the older FF...  Is there additional padding variable that needs to be put in there, to push the list up as it appears in IE?

Again thanks.
Alicia

I am not sure why it looks different in your ff. many. variables os. etc.  can u duplicate. in browsershots.org. is history cleared etc.  ?

by: Steel_GoddessPosted on 2009-10-06 at 12:05:38ID: 25508588

ul.menu{ list-style-type: none; margin-left:-30px; margin-top:0;}

Adding a top margin value seems to have done the trick..
Thanks so much for all your help....
