With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. open-source evernote alternative

I love Evernote because it allows me to save files without the need to upload and download. Once a file is there, it's as easy as it can be.

What I don't like about evernote is that:
1. It requires payment and is not open-source.
2. It won't search for keywords "inside the document"
3. Initial document creation such as Excel still must be done in the traditional sense and the file then 'moved' to Evernote once it is created.

I have a shared hosting at hostgator with shell access but no ability to reboot. Is there anything open-source, that I can can use like Evernote. Being able to 'directly' edit a file without upload/download is imperative.
