Google Docs doesn't house other types of files and must convert even MS documents into it's own format.

Browse All TopicsI love Evernote because it allows me to save files without the need to upload and download. Once a file is there, it's as easy as it can be.
What I don't like about evernote is that:
1. It requires payment and is not open-source.
2. It won't search for keywords "inside the document"
3. Initial document creation such as Excel still must be done in the traditional sense and the file then 'moved' to Evernote once it is created.
I have a shared hosting at hostgator with shell access but no ability to reboot. Is there anything open-source, that I can can use like Evernote. Being able to 'directly' edit a file without upload/download is imperative.

I don't want it to remain open when trying to 'clean things up'. That is the worst time to see it there. I think it would help if you guys could figure out a way to consolidate the items for which close has been requested into a button that says " x items pending close". Then I wouldn't have to see them and would be more likely to accept my own answer instead of assigning a c grade.

Hi rtod2,
Google Docs works more or less the same way and is free.
