if i do not select "always require sign in" ... is it possible for people who have the link, but aren't on the access list, to see the doc?

Browse All Topicsif i have a user who has a yahoo account and no google account, is there a way to provide Contribute access to a google doc... and at the same time prevent those who might have the link to the doc from accessing the doc unless they are on the Access list?
it seems like if i have the Access settings configured so that Sign In is required, people with non-google accounts are not able to see the doc.
if a google account is required in order for it to prevent those who aren't on the list from accessing the doc, does the Access list need to have the user's google account address, or will their yahoo address work?

No they cannot. If a person has Google Account and the link, but does not appears on the access list, when they try to access the file an error will appear "You are signed in as abc@gmail.com, but that email account hasn't been granted permission to this document."
You can be sure of how Google deals with security issue :)
i'm asking about it the other way around...
if i do NOT select "always require sign in"...
then GMAIL account is not required
how does google handle security then? anyone who has the link can access the doc?
my concern:
i want to share a doc but i have users that don't have GMAIL.
so i don't want to select "always require sign in"
but if the user leaves the company... how do i prevent that person from accessing the doc if they still have the link to the doc?
or how do i prevent a user from sending the link to someone i don't know about?
i tested this... and it seemed to me that if i do not select "require sign in", that anyone can access the doc if they have the link.
i'm asking if there's a way to prevent that. because it appears like not requiring sign in is about as secure as allowing Everyone access. or am i missing something?

Not really, as Google indicate that with "No sign-in required" then anyone with the link can access the file (See my attachment)
But, if you don't want the link to be re-used, then you can use the advance permission options for this purpose. See my 2nd attachment. This will also answer your concern above.
BTW, learn more about Google Sharing Policy at:

Will help you understand it fully.

You can just share the file with anyone via their email. Google will send a link for people to edit the file.
As long as the people are still on the access list, they can view/edit the file. Google account is not required if the option "Always require sign-in" is not chosen.
If the option "Always require sign-in" is chosen, they need to have a Google account in order to view/edit the file.
