The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Exchange 5.5 migration to 2000 problems

Asked by EdUSC in Exchange Email Server

Tags: directory, operation, required, exchange

Hi all,

I have a problem where I am moving our organization from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000.  Below I will describe the environment and then the problem.

Current Email system:

Exchange 5.5 in an NT4 domain.
All users login to NT4 domain and use Outlook to get and exchange mail.
The Exchange 5.5 server is used for SMTP mail in and out of Internet protected by a firewall.

An Active Directory environment has been setup and trusts have been put in place between the AD domain and the NT4 domain.  About half of the users have been moved onto the AD structure and their primary accounts on the Exchange server has been set as the AD user.  This works fine.

Migration steps taken:

I have put the AD into native mode and installed the ADC to replicate Exchange 5.5 user info to the AD user. This is working very well.  I have successfully run forestprep and domainprep.  An Exchange 2000 server has been installed into the same Site as the Exchange 5.5 server is in.  Here is where I am having problems.  Users that have had there mailboxes moved to the Exchange 2000 server can send email to other users on that server but messages that are sent to users that still reside on the Exchange 5.5 server get stuck in the x.400 queu.  If a user whose mailbox is still on the Exchange 5.5 box sends a message to a user whose mailbox has been moved to the Exchange 2000 box then a message is returned that has this message:
" A required directory operation was unsuccessful
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= ;p=uscentral;l=KSOPEXC01-020517132542Z-14163
            MSEXCH:MSExchangeMTA:USCENTRAL:KSOPEXC01"

These servers are in the same site and do not have any firewalls between them.  They do have a router between them.  The ADC config connection was created when the Exchange 2000 server was setup and seems to be operational.

Any help would be appreciated.  Let me know if any other info is needed.
