The method you suggested sounds good. You have to be VERY careful if you use PFADMIN. This will cause thousands and thousands of replication messages, which will bottleneck the server, take up alot of disk space, fill the queues very quickly, and can shut the services down if any of the above occur.
You can use PFADMIN, but i would only use it for ten to 20 at a time if you must.
But your original post is correct on how to rehome.
