Hi,
I'm an SBS newbie so go easy on me =o)
Here is my setup:
<>SBS 2000 server behind linksys router--
*only exchange is installed
*only one NIC
*domain is kptp.local
*DNS is setup and forwarding is enabled (using two of Verizon's DNS servers)
<>Verizon DSL with a dynamic IP--Their customer service said that a static IP was not currently available in my area (NJ). However, this is a business DSL account.(What gives?)
<> I'm running a dynamic DNS update service called no-ip.com behind the router.
*I can ping the router remotely at something.no-ip.com
*HTTP, SMTP and POP3 ports are forwarded to the internal IP of the SBS 2000 server.
*I can telnet into the server remotely using something.no-ip.com I did this to check for relaying as per Microsofts Kb
<>Currently, the e-mail (and website) are hosted by a company called HostingMatters at externaldomain.com
*I'm using the POP3 connector to download mail from externaldomain.com
*In the default SMTP virtual server it's setup to use outbound security and Verizon's SMTP server as a smarthost--this works and mail get out just fine
*The Use DNS reverse lookup is checked under SMTP virtual server-->advanced
*The default recipient policy is @kptplaw.com
Problems:
<> It seems like receiving the mail is hit or miss
1. They don't get the replys to their out of office e-mails.
2. The receive NDR's when sending mail from oneuser@kptplaw.com to twouser@kptplaw.com
3. OWA works from within the office but cannot be reached via
http://something.no-ip.com/exchange 4. We are getting tons of spam .
I'm guessing that the NDR's are because Exchange is set up to handle all mail for kptplaw.com (default recipient policy?). I set it that way because I want the reply-to address to be kptplaw.com and not kptp.local . What should I do here because they want to use those "external" kptplaw.com e-mail addresses for internal and external communication.
I'm working on getting them to host their own mail. The only thing is I don't know how spiffy if will be to update the kptplaw.com MX record with the something.no-ip.com dynamic address. How would that work out?
thanks in advance,
Chris
