The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Exchange 2000: NNTP Connection Failure

Asked by blueivy in Exchange Email Server, UseNet (NNTP)

Tags: exchange, feed, newnews, nntp

I have setup NNTP connectivity for my Exchange Server (SBS2000) however I get the following event log messages:

The virtual server 1 successfully connected to news.cable.ntlworld.com to initiate a feed.

About 30 seconds later I get :

The virtual server 1 has completed an active feed from/to news.cable.ntlworld.com. Status is FAILURE.

I'm unsure of why this is failing. I have setup logging and the following is the log file entries:

===

21:28:50 62.253.162.109 mode ntl+Cablemodem+News+Server+(Typhoon+v2.0.0) 200
21:28:50 62.253.162.109 date 20031202212737 111
21:28:50 62.253.162.109 list NewsGroups+Follow 215
21:29:12 62.253.162.109 newnews NEWNEWS+Permission+Denied+(command+disabled) 502
21:29:12 62.253.162.109 - - 0

===

I see Permission Denied, but I'm unsure what this is for. Is it permission denied for the command (command+disabled) or is it permission denied for my connection (I don't have a username and password).

I can connect to the news server using Agent on both client and server so I know connectivity is fine. I have setup the NNTP feed as a Peer feed with both inbound (pull) and outbound (push) access. The newsgroups have actually had their folders created under Public Folders\Internet Newsgroups and a list of the newsgroups have been downloaded as I can see from the Newsgroups section in Exchange Admin.

I've checked the web and no mention of it, so I'm a bit stuck. I think the command that Exchange is trying to use is disabled on my ISP news server, therefore how do I get around it?!?!
