Browse All TopicsOn my exchange server (which is in the domain but not a DC) I get the following message in my applications event log
"Following master server DN appears to be pointing to a deleted object. This may prevent Exchange Routing Service from functioning properly. Please check your DS setting. <CN=LAMB2K\
DEL:490f9965-b7f0-43b7-811
This reference to lamb2k is an old server which used to be our mail server. It is now gone (formatted and renamed)
When I run ADSIEDIT, I can find refenrence to this "ghost server" - but I am loathe to change it in case I stuff up the whole server and nothing works (as far as the users are concerned there are no known issues at the moment)
I am running win2k3 o/s and win2k exchange.
Anyone got any ideas.
Thanks
Chris

Sorry for the delay, but I have been getting my facts right.
I have now found out that you cannot run Exchange 2000 on Windows 2003 O/S and it comes up with all sorts of errors including group schedules not working properly and a whole host of other problems which I encountered and can be seen on my other call "exchange 2k server down - pls help..." -
I didn't use your thoughts but I thanks for answering - I shall award the points to you in the hope that this would have worked.
Cheers

You can delete the orphaned server object with no problem. Since I'm not there, and may be misunderstanding you, make absolutely sure you have a full backup, including system state, of one of your DCs prior to doing this.
That being said, I have run into this several times. After deleting a 5.5 server, a server object will remain in the configuration container in AD. Deleting them has never been a problem.
