Setting up 4 domains in Exchange Server 2003

Hello,

Can someone list step by step how to configure an Exchange 2003 Server to run mail for

abc.com
def.com
ghi.com
jkl.com

I will be hosting 4 seperate domains on one Exchange Server. The MX records have all been directed to this server.

Thanks,

Chris B.

By default Exchange accepts inbound domains * (or everything), then bounces anything that doesn't match an address in the Global Address List - unless you've specified otherwise.

With that in mind, all you have to do is either manually add the addresses where needed (user account, e-mail addresses) or add entries to the Default Recipient Policy for each SMTP domain (Exchange System Manager, Recipient Policies).

I hope that all makes sense.

OK - so you will still want to configure recipient policies.  In this case, you would create a new recipient policy for each domain, then use filters to determine who they are applied to.  Keep in mind that only 1 recipient policy will apply to each user (the one with the highest priority), BUT once you have configured the policies, with the small number of users that you will have each one apply to, it will be very easy to then add SMTP addresses for those users that correspond to the additional domains.  So in your case above, for the users that you want to assign partnerlease.com and vendorfinancial.com, only one of those policies will actually assign an address, but you can then go to the properties of those users and DL's and add an smtp address that corresponds to the other domain.  Just make sure that you have the recipient policies configured -they are the ticket that tells Exchange it should accept e-mail for a domain.

I went into 'Recipient Policy' and created a new policy for partnerlease.com and changed the smtp to @partnerlease.com.

At this point, where to I create mailboxes for partnerlease.com?

Thanks,

Chris B.
In Active Directory Users & Computers, you will create mailboxes for your users the same way you do right now.  If you set up the filters on the partnerlease.com policy, then when you mailbox-enable a new user that this policy applies to, they will have smtp addresses with @partnerlease.com.  As I mentioned earlier, if the user already has a mailbox, and already has an smtp address, then you can simply create a new one in the user account properties.  Understand that there isn't a different "location" for the other mailboxes.  Does that help?
