I am probably going to redo our entire mail configuration.
Currently we pass smtp and securepop through our firewall to our exchange server. I have a new office of significant size that I need to bring into our organization. This is my chance to increase security of our network. Its been a while since my design class so I need some tips.
I dont really remember how but I think I want to do this:
Setup one server on our DMZ and install exchange as a front end server.
Setup one backend server on large office #1 (where our current ex 2000 server sits)
Setup a second backend server at large office #2 (who currently outsources email)
Maybe I do not need the mail server at the second location? what are your thoughts.
I plan to connect the office with a frame relay or 3des hardware vpn over the internet. Im expecting the speed will be 512 or a full T1. There will be about 30 users at location #2. They all use outlook 2003. Do you think they can get reliable and fast enough use out of remotely connectiong to our server through the VPN?
Or do I need to have the two backend server sycnronizing or using seperate mailbox stores etc... ???
Large officde #2 will have 1 maybe 2 windows 2003 servers that I plan to join to our domain.... Ill have to dig deep to remember my sites and services info. Been a while since my windows 2000 classes too :( But thats another discussion for another day.
