I installed a new Exchange 2000 Server in the existing 5.5 site as part of the site. Moved a couple of test mailboxes over to it. There is another 5.5 in another site that is part of the organization. All internal deliveries go fine between them. However, no external deliveries will go to the mailboxes on the 2000 server. When using the 2000 server as the external SMTP server, no deliveries go to the 2000 server mailboxes or the 5.5 server on the other site, just the main 5.5 server. I installed a site connector to the other site from the new server (one already exists between the 2 5.5's) The 5.5 mail server acting as the main email router delivers to the 5.5's but can't get external mail to the 2000 server.
I can not complete this upgrade until I can verify the Exch2000 server can deliver to my other site, and to itself. It's hard to believe it can't deliver to itself.
You know what else I noticed? No server software from Microsoft has ever worked out of the box for me. ever. that's bad.
